Don't fix every mistake with process

When you’re small, you don’t have a lot of process.

As you grow, you need more process.

The natural way for this to happen is that every time someone makes a mistake, or something goes wrong, you add a process to prevent or catch that.

Don’t do this. It’s the surest way to build up a bureaucracy and slow everything down. Maybe you had a one-in-a-hundred or one-in-a-thousand chance of that thing happening, but now you’re slowing things down in every case. And before you know it you’ll be spending far more time on checks and preventions than on creation.

I think I’ve heard this specified as “don’t scar after on scratch”. For small scratches, just move on and wait for them to heal. If your body created a permanent scar after each scratch you got, you’d soon be all scars.
